LOL: Life of Leo: TWiT-AM Is On The Air

  • Venkat Swaminarayan · 1 year ago
Hello you are wonderful... I work in a indian curry house. Real hard work...almost soul destroying. To keep myself in a happy place I listen to you leo. But i always missed the twitlive shows as i am mostly at work. But now i can listen to you live on my ipod touch. So thank you leo....I really mean it.
  • Tales · 1 year ago
This is super Leo, going to try it straight away, have to pick up a itunes gift card tomorrow to get the internet tuner from Nullriver, but it's worth it if I can listen to you :D

Edit: FStream seems to work to (free)

Edit 2: No it doesn't it connects and then disconnects

Edit 3: Looks like the only app that's going to work is the NullRiver app

I put the address in FStream and it is not working for me. Anything special need to be done to UAE that?
  • cowboybill · 1 year ago
Leave off the .m3u at the end of the address and it should stream fine.
  • cowboybill · 1 year ago
Just leave the .m3u off of the end of the address and it should work fine.
  • weckman · 1 year ago
    Hi Leo!
The stream appears to be working, time is commencing and it gives out valid title information, however there is no sound. Other streaming services like Lounge Radio work fine, so it's probably not my system. I am running it on Winamp/Vista.
  • okaythings · 1 year ago
This is a great idea, but I too get no sound when connecting to the stream. It finds the stream, and appears to be playing something, but it's just a deafening silence. By the way I wrote about the joys of of Internet radio on the iPhone on my blog earlier this month. http://www.okaythings.com/

edit: now it works like a champ, awesome!
  • Tales · 1 year ago
It is correct there is no sound, earlier today there was an Old episode of TWiT playing, after that finished the sound went out, but the stream is still active :)
  • leolaporte · 1 year ago
Oops. I was running podcasts from iTunes and it ran out of stuff. (Just for the test.) I've added more shows to the playlist. It's playing now.
  • Tales · 1 year ago
no problem, I can't tell you how happy I am that there's an audio only stream now :D
  • weckman · 1 year ago
Ah, wonderful, it's working now, listening to Dick and You talking about the Smart. There are plenty of those here in Gemany BTW, a good friend of mine had the convertible for years and loved it. I however did not, it felt too much like a go-cart to me with no suspension / driving comfort at all. But as You said - You apparently either love it or hate it, there's no in-between, and right now, from what I understand, those Smarts are HOT in the US, so Your daughter's gonna be the star! :-)
  • Maxx · 1 year ago
Wow Wow Wow!! Just what I wanted! Now I can listen on my iPhone with Nullriver Tuner while I'm on the go! Thank you so much Leo!
  • Jamie · 1 year ago
Leo, can you get this in the shoutcast or flycast directory? If so, then some other iPhone apps can listen to it too.
  • leolaporte · 1 year ago
It's on the xiph.org and oddcast directories. I don't know if you can add an icecast stream to the Shoutcast directory. I'll check. I'm sure Flycast will add us to their directory, too. I'm just waiting for the twit.am domain to resolve.
  • techaddict · 1 year ago
Shiny! I had no problem connecting and the stream works. I'll give it a highway test tomorrow.
  • greg · 1 year ago

  • burnflare · 1 year ago
Does anyone know of an application for Symbian Series 60 3rd edition that can capture this stream? I have a nokia n81 8gb now and the builtin realplayer cannot play this stream.
  • burnflare · 1 year ago
I found a program from Nokia called Internet Radio. Here: http://snipurl.com/3ycnu

Will there be a way of getting a schedule to allow us to know when our favorite podcast is coming up?
  • Alex H · 1 year ago
Working fine here in Sydney, Australia.

Great for in the car on the way to work, thanks Leo.

Opening the URL in the FStream program doesn't do it. FStream is working for me, but with this method:

Enter the URL in the browser and hit enter so that the small twit.m3u file downloads. It likely will then launch iTunes but just quit iTunes and the file should be in your downloads directory. Select that twit.m3u file and choose "Get Info..." and set the file to open with FStream instead of the default, which is iTunes. I chose to also make all other "m3u" files launch with FStream but that's a personal preference.

Now, to get FStream to work and play the feed, just double click the file. Seems to work every time. Keep the file in a safe place and you could also pop it into your dock for quick access.

    Hope that helps!
  • Tales · 1 year ago
@randal How did you get FStream working? keeps disconnecting for me?
  • Tales · 1 year ago
ok so the trick is: Use this server : http://67.228.204.146:8000/twit

    Without the '.m3u'
  • Bryan Bortz · 1 year ago
thank you! This got it working with FStream for me. FStream works great despite it's weird config interface.
  • Pat · 1 year ago
    That app rocks pretty hard!
  • Guillaume · 1 year ago
Its working for FStream but without the .m3u

When it goes to sleep it stops working
  • WR Klein · 1 year ago
64kbps? Why not 32kbps being mono and voice. Less taxing on wifi (on the iPhone end).
  • JScottClark · 1 year ago
Leo just so you know the stream of live audio is working great. I am listening to MBW while at work!
  • Gordon · 1 year ago
Thanks Leo. Your Internet Radio station is streaming fine in my WinAMP on Windows Vista, in Toronto, Canada. Too bad Stickam is doing maintenance as of Tuesday September 30, 2008, 5:36PM EDT.

    FStream Works great for me.
  • jaw04005 · 1 year ago
I was just trying to do this myself last week to get Windows Weekly live in the car! Thanks, Leo. I love it!
  • marxster · 1 year ago
    Hey Leo,

Listened to "Roz Rows 41" today using Tuner. I'm in Canada using 3G. Works like a charm.

Even more of Leo now. Yeah.
  • rbitting · 1 year ago
I love this. I've been looking/wanting a shoutcast App for my Ipod Touch for the longest. I stream out my XM PCR from home to listen to at work. Plus throwing in TWIT broadcasting is like the icing on the cake. I can do shoutcast listening easy on my WinMo phone but the Iphone is looking better by the minute. If only they would put a replaceable battery and add bluetooth stereo and, and ....maybe a microSDHC card in it?
  • JustJohn · 1 year ago
Thanks for adding this. Now I can finally listen live while I'm at work, since Stickam doesn't work through the proxy.

It's also great to be able to listen from my iPhone. (Either through FStream; which is a little sketchy or through a PHP script I wrote based on http://blog.fuexy.com/2007/11/03/streaming-shou... )
  • Tales · 1 year ago
Care to share this php script?
  • JustJohn · 1 year ago
Here's the code I use, your mileage may very.

I usually listen to TWiT Live at work and only rarely get to watch the video, but since our network is shared by so many users, the video stalls from time to time. I'm listening to the stream now in iTunes and the audio sounds great. Now I'll definitely tune into the audio stream when I get to work. Thanks for putting this together.
  • Jim · 1 year ago
Thanks for this! The TWIT stream is working well on my iPhone.

Now, if only Adobe and Apple can agree on a Flash plugin for the iPhone/iPod Touch ...
  • syncpak · 1 year ago
Thank You. Its awesome listening on my iphone in the car. Who needs XM radio.
Next step , please add a channel so i hook up my Apple TV and can watch shows at night.
    Thanks
  • mdelco · 1 year ago
    Thanks, Leo.

I'm listening on my Centro (sorry - no iPhone!). I'm using Pocket Tunes, Under Tools, Internet radio I added http://twit.am and it's working!
  • Brett A. Noe · 1 year ago
Listening with Null River Tuner on iPhone in Peoria, IL. It plays in Peoria, it should play anywhere!
  • Chris_Chicago · 1 year ago
I finally got it to work. after much fussing, using FStream. (iPhone)
    URL http://twit.am/listen
    Bitrate 64K
    Format m3u

I'm using it through a 3G network (Chicago suburbs).
  • tweygant · 1 year ago
    Thanks Chris! worked first time!
  • Lane · 1 year ago
    Hey Leo,

I think it's great to have the stream, but I'd thought I'd mention you should check your math. If you have 4TB per month of total bandwidth, that will service 200 listeners who were connected 24/7 at 64kbps.

And thanks for sharing info about the Barix Instreamer. I've been looking for a product like this, and I happen to like it's feature set.

Lane (long time listener, first time caller)

Very cool. Being a new iPod Touch user who just happened to download Tuner for listening to our own Shoutcast feed I was very pleased to come across your Twitter stream. Thank you for making this available for us!
